back in  ..
finally, after the London bombings of July 7

Muslims across the world are condemning the desecration of Islam by those who murder in the name of Islam

while we Americans act as though faith-based bombings that maim and kill are foreign to our culture

but we grow our own in the soil of professed faith in Jesus, Prince of Peace

remember the clinic bombing of 1998?

the coward who set off that bomb, Eric Rudolph

was sentenced Monday, July 18, in Birmingham, Alabama— to life in prison with no chance of parole

he maimed Emily Lyons, a nurse, and killed police officer Robert Sanderson outside the New Woman All Women clinic on January 29, 1998

the bomb was full of nails and shrapnel

he bombed the 1996 Atlanta Olympics: one dead, 100 wounded; and he bombed an abortion clinic and a gay bar in Atlanta in 1997

He says he is a devout Christian, motivated by his hatred of abortion and the government that permits it

what’s wrong with this picture?

The combination of “devout Christian” and “motivated by hatred” exactly defines the desecration of Christianity that Christians in America must now confront

those who murder in the name of life; who murder in the name of faith

this also confounds and confuses the reproductive rights dilemma: abortion as murder versus the right of a woman to control her own reproductive destiny, and the just expectation each child should have at birth of being cared for and loved

To deny both abortion and birth control is the height of hypocrisy

let’s call that what it really is: ages-old gender repression cloaked in self-righteousness

anyone who took Women’s Studies in the 70s can read you chapter and verse on the economics of gender repression

news flash: those attitudes did not come from God

they’ve got nothing to do with a culture of life

and anyway a culture of life is meaningless if the quality of that life is debased

who stands with the Prince of Peace? those who bomb? those who claim hatred as their motivation?

I don’t think so.
